Who Stole the Painting?

Liz Tolsma’s Slashed Canvas is the final book in Celebrate Lit’s Ever After Mysteries series, and it’s available TODAY! To celebrate, we are doing a fun little blog hop asking the question: Who stole the painting of the Russian Princess from the Louvre? There will be a new post every day. Don’t miss any!  #becauseprizes   Let’s start right off by getting one thing clear: I did not steal the stupid painting. My décor is more “country chic” than “stuffy and snooty.” It would clash with everything I own. I’m sure the Russian Princess was lovely, but I don’t want her in my living room. Explaining that to the gendarmerie in my high school-level French was difficult. He looked confused, even when I showed him my Instagram account – dozens of pictures of quilts decorating every room of my house. Not an oil painting in sight – just a few crayon sketches by my gifted grandchildren. Much nicer than a dusty old painting of someone I don’t even know, by someone else I don’t know. Finally, he announced that he spoke English. I admit that his English was better than my French, but… well, it was probably inevitable. I’ve watched Read More

Silencing the Siren

Another Ever After book has been released! Denise Barela’s Silencing the Siren is finally available, and in honor of this fun book, the ladies of the Ever After Mysteries Series are doing another fun blog hop! Start HERE with Rebekah Jones’s story to find out what happened to the disappearing poster. What on earth had possessed Chautona to bring her dog to the auction? Seriously… Neville would have been happier at home, chewing on the jumbo bone he got in his Christmas stocking. Between you and me, I think Chautona just wanted to show off their matching sweaters. Nutcrackers, you know, because of her latest book. A gift from an adoring fan, no doubt, but IMHO a little tacky for this snooty auction house. I admit… she never actually claimed he was a service dog. She’s a scrupulously honest woman. But she did slip on a pair of dark glasses as we approached the building. “You won’t be able to see the poster with those on,” I said. I’m afraid I sounded a little snappish, but really… that woman’s creative genius had gotten us into trouble before. We’d come a long way for this auction, and I didn’t want to Read More

For a Creative Change… Try a Block of the Month Quilt

I love to write. Like most of my writer friends, I have more stories inside of me than I can ever hope to write.  But I can only take so much computer time before my eyes start to cross and my stashes of fabric and paper start calling my name. (In the summer, the garden calls, too, but not so much in December.) As Christians created in the image of God – the ultimate creator – I think we are supposed to live a creative life. You are creative! You should be creative, too! It doesn’t have to be BIG creativity.  You don’t even have to be talented or trained. You don’t have to be “craftsy.” Just think outside the box (yes, I know a creative writer shouldn’t use cliches like that, but it fits.) A creative life doesn’t necessarily involve arts and crafts at all. It might just be a matter of rearranging things you already have. Cooking a new meal. Reorganizing your bookshelves.  It doesn’t have to be expensive. I’ve always liked dressing up my house for the changing seasons, but I seldom spend money on it. I just pull out quilts, dishes, linens, and anything else I Read More
