And a personal note:
All of the above jargon is technical but true for most websites. It is a legally-required document. I don’t actually collect much information here, but you know how the Internet is… I have the best of intentions to honor your privacy, though. I appreciate my readers!
In simple, real terms, I collect your first name and email address if you sign up for my newsletter. I do not share that information with anyone else or use it for anything but sending periodic newsletters. There is always an “unsubscribe” button at the bottom of every email newsletter I send out.
I usually request first name, last name and email addresses for contests. At the end of the contest period, that information is discarded. I will not contact you in any other way, unless you win, in which case I will need your mailing address.
If you leave a comment on my posts, I will see your name and email address. Other visitors will see your name but not your email address. If you click on the box that says “notify me of other responses.” you will get an email under those circumstances. I will not use your email address for any other purposes (i.e. adding you to a mailing list). A “cookie” is placed so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
If you communicate with me using the contact page on my website, I will have your email address and respond that way. Again, I will not use your email address for any other purpose.
Many of the product links on my website are Amazon affiliate links. If you click on one, Amazon will know that you came from my website. If you purchase something, there I will receive a small commission. Amazon will, of course, use the information in your Amazon account to complete the purchase, but I do not have access to any of their information about you.
